It looks like Game Show Network is going to concentrate on airing more original programming vs. the classics game shows of the 70's & 80's (a R-E-A-L-L-Y B-A-D M-O-V-E I-MHO >:-( !!!!!!). Kinda sucks that GSN has decided not to negotiate a deal to air some of the pre-1978 Hollywood Squares. But how about this idea . . . . What does NBC show during the early mornings now (from 1:35AM to 5AM EST)? Same night reruns of Jay Leno & Conan Obrien if I remember correctly. Instead of this, why don't they air classic game shows the network had back in the day (Sqaures, Password, Card Sharks, Jeporday, Concentration, Tell the Truth, etc.) in one solid block from let's say 02:05AM to 05:05AM EST? I'm sure most of us remember that it was basically standard practice to have guests stars on the game show that had celebrities to have them on for a full week (Monday-Friday). There has to be enough complete epidoses out there where you could air all the shows which were shown for a specific week (i.e. the week before Christmas in 1975). If you didn't have all those episodes for each show, use another year (1979, 1972, what have you). Still run current commercials during the breaks, but leave in an original one (a la Nick at Nite/TV Land) every once in awhile for nostalgia sake. Since most of these were run on NBC anyway, you could even show the original opening bumper from the early color days ('The following program has been bought to you in living color by NBC' . . . man, that's cool to hear the audio of that still :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!) QUICK ASIDE: Is there A-N-Y-P-L-A-C-E on the Net where I can see a video clip of this? At the old NBC.com site 2 years ago, the network had it archived (both Color intros; the one from the late 50's (1958, 1959?) with the gong opening and the one from the early 60's (61, 62?) with the strings & flute opening) along with its current opening bumper videos. But that page is no longer up :-( !!!!!! So what do you think ? ? ? ?

I hope the peter Marshall Hollywood Squares found espoides find a place in the cable universe. I am so Happy that they found all the 1972 thru 1975 cbs espiodes of the joker's wild and they are showing it on the game show network. I hope Game Show Network reconsiers it';s stand on acquring the hollywood sqaures with Peter Marshall.

When my late grandpa (Herman Hallums whom later my mother idolizes her father) & I did watch the show from 1966 to 1982. I Hate it when NBC-TV demolished it and I wish the videotapes from 10/17/1966 to 4/21/1978 will repaired, digitally restored & remaste ed by Columbia-TriStar Television.

Piddling around the net at work tonight and I just stumbled upon your 'Original Hollywood Sqauares' site (I think I came across the link from a Karen Valentine site). As a kid in the 70's, I remember watching classic Game Shows like Hollywood Squares, Hi h Rollers, etc (I actually remember watching that Marble Machine Game Show when I was 5 . . . I thought that was the coolest thing :-) !!!!!). Well, I just wanted to know if you have the original intro to HS on your site (or know where I can find it). I thought the intro with the brass trumpets was the coolest game show intro ever!!!!!!!! Over at TVparty.com they just have an audio clip of it its on the Game Show 1974 page). Great job on the site BTW :-) . . . .

First of all, Happy Birthday to Hollywood Squares! I've been visiting your site just about every day since I first found it. (I even have your page bookmarked.) I love the updates. I see you put the Rose on HS picture that they showed on TV Land during he tribute to the Dick Van Dyke show. (Yes, I watched it.) I even read your Politically Incorrect section, and you're right. Whoopi WOULD have a cow about some of those especially the exploded maid. I even saw the Monday episode of the very second week; (Yes, the day Flo-Jo died) the secret square prize was maid service for a year. Whoopi came unglued and said that she or Flo-Jo had better not be the secret square. She even got mad when a contestant said he lived on a plantation. Anyway, I think you'r doing a great job on this site, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Great site. It is a shame NoBrainCells had to go and destroy their classics. I understand they even destroyed JFK's inaguration coverage (it was even in color). I watched HS as a kid and remember Paul Lynde and many others. The John Davidson version s unk (only because of JD and JM J. Bullock, otherwise it was OK). Let's hope smoeone at nbc (These idiots don't deserve to have their name properly capitalized) missed some tapes and they are somewhere out there. The new HS is all right. Tom Bergeron is a good host. With him and Whoopi, I think Squares will have a good run as long as Gilbert Godfried isn't on. Best to all.

Hi, Dixon! Found your HS webpage on Yahoo! and had a look @ it for the first time today! Magnificent job!!! I'm adding it to my TV Web ShrineThe Hollywood Squares on my NBC-TV affiliate WDSU-TV, Ch nnel 6. (Those O's reminded me of the O's on Oreo boxes!) And, yes, I, too, think that it is a shame that NBC couldn't preserve many of the vast 3,536 tapes of The Hollywood Squares (yes, that's how many of them there are)--oh, those precious recordings. :( (It'sgood to hear that all the other episodes of HS running from April 1978 to the June 20, 1980 finale still exist!)

I think your site is great. I was about five or six years old when the NBC version went off the air, (They never showed the Las Vegas episodes here.) so I don't remember much about the show except for Paul, George, and my favorite Rose (I became one of h r biggest fans after her first week on the John Davidson version; December 1986). I also say "Fie on those idiots at NBC for chucking all of those game shows!" I would have loved to have seen Hollywood Squares (and the Chuck Woolery Wheel of Fortune) again.
